NCCE, with GIZ and EU Support, Engages Sefwi Wiawso Nursing Training College on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption

The Western North Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged members of the Civic Education Club of the Sefwi Wiawso Nursing Training College on accountability, transparency, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption.

The programme, held on 9th May 2026 at the school’s conference room, formed part of the Civic Engagement on the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana, PAIReD project, being implemented by the NCCE with support from GIZ, the European Union and other international partners.

Addressing the students, the Western North Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Awudu Dramani Sam, stressed the importance of accountability in national development and urged participants to reject corrupt practices in their daily lives. He noted that corruption continues to hinder national progress, making it important for citizens, especially young people, to uphold transparency, integrity and the rule of law.

Mr. Awudu encouraged the students to become watchdogs and vanguards of Ghana’s democracy by demanding accountability from duty bearers at all levels, including in their homes, schools, communities and public institutions. He also explained Article 35(8) of the 1992 Constitution, which enjoins the State to take steps to eradicate corrupt practices and abuse of power, and encouraged participants to report misconduct and suspected corruption to appropriate state institutions such as the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice.

He further indicated that the engagement formed part of broader efforts to strengthen citizens’ participation in promoting accountability, transparency and the rule of law in Ghana.

A tutor at the Sefwi Wiawso Nursing Training College, Mr. Richard Zula, commended the NCCE for organizing what he described as an impactful and timely programme. He encouraged the Commission to sustain such engagements and urged members of the Civic Education Club to share the knowledge gained with their colleagues, families and communities.

Some members of the Civic Education Club also expressed appreciation to the NCCE for the programme and appealed for more educational engagements in the future.

In his closing remarks, the Western North Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Awudu Dramani Sam, expressed appreciation to the management, staff and students of Sefwi Wiawso Nursing Training College for their support and active participation, which contributed to the success of the programme.
