NCCE Assin Foso and Legal Aid Commission sensitized Assin Wurakese Community Members on Interstate Succussion Law.

Residents of Assin Wurakese in the Assin Central Municipal District of the Central Region have been educated on the Intestate Succession Law, 1985(PNDC LAW 111)

The purpose was to enlighten them on how to protect the rights of spouses and children when a relative dies without a will.

The sensitization program was jointly organized by the National Commission for Civic Education(NCCE) and the Legal Aid Commission as part of efforts to promote legal awareness and reduce property-related family disputes. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Michael Sagoe of NCCE, with support from Madam Yvonne Fosu and Madam Theresa Avoka, explained that the law protects children and families in Ghana. He mentioned that people no longer wait for their uncles to die to inherit their properties; it's a thing of the past. Today, children in Ghana inherit from their parents without anyone denying them their right to do so.

Mr. Kelvin Aidoo of the Legal Aid Commission said the commission provides free legal services to those who cannot afford a lawyer and uses ADR to settle disputes amicably. The chief of Wurakese, Nana Anyan Akrongin, was also present at the engagement.
