NCCE, Assin Foso and Environmental Health Department educate Ghana Co-operative Taylor's and Dress Makers Association on Environmental Sanitation

Members of the Ghana Co-operative Tailors and Dressmakers Association have been sensitised on the importance of maintaining a clean, healthy environment as part of efforts to promote environmental sanitation in the municipality.

Officers from the Environmental Health Unit and the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organised the educational programme. The team was led by Environmental Health Officer, Madam Akosua Innocentia, together with Madam Yvonne Fosu and Madam Theresa Avoka, both staff of the NCCE.

Addressing the members, Madam Akosua Innocentia emphasized the need for proper waste management, regular cleaning of their workplaces, and cleaning of nearby gutters to prevent flooding and breeding of mosquitoes. Also, they have to weed around their house and shops to prevent snakes. She noted that tailoring shops generate a lot of fabric waste and cautioned members against indiscriminate dumping of waste into drains.

She also educated them on personal hygiene, proper handling of food at their workplaces, and the need to keep toilet facilities clean to prevent communicable diseases such as cholera and typhoid.

Madam Yvonne Fosu and Madam Theresa Avoka of the NCCE explained that environmental sanitation is a civic responsibility. They stated that a clean environment promotes good health, increases productivity, and reflects good citizenship. They urged the association to become ambassadors of cleanliness in their communities and to lead by example.

The NCCE officers further reminded members of their duty to pay their tolls, observe the national sanitation day, and support the Assembly's efforts to make the city clean.

The leadership of the Ghana Co-operative Tailors and Dressmakers Association expressed gratitude to the officers for the timely education and pledged to put into practice the knowledge acquired. They also appealed for more of such engagements and for the provision of waste bins to support their sanitation efforts. Mr. Insuah Abdullah urged the officers to pay regular visits.

The programme ended with an interactive session where members asked questions and shared some challenges they face regarding waste disposal in their area.
