NCCE Engages Dressmakers’ Apprentices on GBV Prevention and Adolescent Reproductive Health

The Central Tongu District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Adidome, has engaged apprentices of the Dressmakers’ Association on gender-based violence (GBV), gender equality and adolescent reproductive health.

The engagement provided a safe and informative platform for the young participants to learn about their health, rights and responsibilities, as well as ways of building healthy and respectful relationships.

Mr. Frank Azumah, a facilitator, urged the young women to take their sexual and reproductive health seriously and make informed decisions concerning their health and wellbeing.

The session also focused on gender-based violence, with participants educated on what constitutes GBV and the various forms it can take, including physical, emotional and sexual abuse.

Participants were encouraged to speak up when they experience or witness abuse, seek support from trusted adults and appropriate institutions, and respect the rights, dignity and personal boundaries of others.

The program further addressed gender equality, emphasizing that both girls and boys deserve equal opportunities, respect, protection and participation in society. Participants were encouraged to challenge harmful gender stereotypes and promote fairness and mutual respect in their communities.

The Chairman of the Dressmakers’ Association, Mr. Atofo, expressed appreciation to the NCCE for the insightful education and urged the participants to put the knowledge gained into practice.
