NCCE Sissala West Engages Pupils on Responsible Digital Citizenship During 2026 Citizenship Week

As part of the ongoing 2026 Annual Citizenship Week Celebration being observed by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) across the country, the Sissala West District Directorate of the Commission has intensified civic education engagements with pupils of selected basic schools in the district.

The school-based engagements, held from Monday, 1st June to Friday, 5th June 2026, were led by Mr. Mustapha Iddrisu, with support from Mr. Nasare Alhassan and Mr. Francis Asisi K. The team visited Chetu, Puzzene, Wiiro, Gaapare Wuljua, Living Brook Academy, Fielmuo, Nimoro Catholic and Nuria Islamic Basic Schools.

The celebration was held under the theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.” It sought to educate pupils and teachers on responsible use of the internet and social media, while encouraging young people to uphold the values and principles of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana in the digital space.

Addressing the pupils, Mr. Mustapha Iddrisu explained that the internet had become an important tool for learning, communication and civic participation, but cautioned that it must be used responsibly. He said children must understand that their actions online can affect other people, their schools, their communities and the country at large.

He encouraged the pupils to use digital platforms to promote peace, respect, tolerance and national unity. Mr. Iddrisu further reminded them that freedom of expression comes with responsibility, and that the right to share opinions online must not be used to insult, bully, deceive or harm others.

Mr. Iddrisu also advised the pupils to avoid cyberbullying, internet fraud, hate speech, misinformation and the sharing of false news on social media and other online platforms. He urged them to verify information before sharing it, protect their personal information, and report suspicious or harmful online activities to trusted adults, teachers or appropriate authorities.

He further emphasized that upholding the Constitution online means respecting the rights of others, promoting truth, rejecting violence and using digital platforms in ways that support Ghana’s democracy and development.

The engagement formed part of the NCCE’s efforts to instill civic responsibility, digital discipline and constitutional awareness among schoolchildren in the digital age.
