The Bono Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils of Ridge Experimental Basic ‘C’ School in Sunyani as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
The sensitisation programme, held under the theme "Growing up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online", sought to educate pupils on responsible online behaviour and the importance of observing constitutional values in the digital space.
Addressing the pupils, Mr Gardesey Ernest, Principal Civic Education Officer at the Bono Regional NCCE Directorate, urged them to allow the principles of the 1992 Constitution to guide their conduct online. He cautioned that digital platforms should not be used to spread harmful content or engage in activities that violate the laws of the country.
"The internet can be good, and it can also be harmful. How you choose to use it will determine whether it benefits or destroys you," Mr Gardesey Ernest noted.
He encouraged the pupils to use digital tools for learning, innovation, and personal development, while avoiding cyberbullying, disinformation, and the sharing of sexually explicit materials. Mr Gardesey also advised them to rely on credible sources of information and to be mindful of the risks associated with unsafe internet use.
The programme was attended by the Head Teacher of the school, Ms Georgietta Ashiagbor, as well as teachers and pupils, who actively participated in the discussions.
The engagement forms part of NCCE’s nationwide efforts to promote responsible digital citizenship among children and young people and to encourage the upholding of constitutional values in the digital age.
