The Amansie West Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged members of the Dress Makers and Tailors Association at Antoakrom on responsible citizenship and tax compliance as part of efforts to promote civic responsibility and national development.
The engagement sought to educate participants on their civic responsibilities as citizens and business operators, with particular emphasis on the importance of fulfilling their tax obligations.
Speaking on the topic, “Responsible Citizenship and Tax Compliance,” Mr. Stephen Agyei, Senior Civic Education Officer, explained that responsible citizenship involves not only enjoying the rights and freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution but also performing the duties and responsibilities expected of citizens.
He noted that the payment of taxes is an important responsibility that enables the state to generate revenue for national development. Taxes contribute to the provision of essential public services and infrastructure, including education, healthcare, roads, sanitation and other development projects.
Mr. Agyei encouraged members of the association to comply with their tax obligations and to keep proper records of their businesses. He further urged them to seek information and clarification from the appropriate institutions whenever they were uncertain about their tax responsibilities.
Mr. Agyei also emphasised that responsible citizenship requires citizens to obey the laws of Ghana, respect the rights of others, contribute to community development and fulfil their constitutional responsibilities.
He encouraged the participants to put into practice the knowledge gained and to share the information with other members of their association and the wider community.
Facilitating the engagement, Mr. Aziz Adjei Laryea, Amansie West District Director of the NCCE, urged the participants to recognise their role as partners in the development of their communities and the nation.
The engagement featured an interactive discussion during which participants asked questions and shared their views on taxation, civic responsibilities and the challenges confronting small business operators.
The NCCE Amansie West Directorate reaffirmed its commitment to engaging various groups and associations within the district through continuous civic education to promote responsible citizenship, constitutional awareness and active participation in national development.
