As part of activities marking the 2026 World Environment Day Celebration, implementing partners of the Do-It-Yourself Plastic Waste Art Exhibition have intensified efforts to promote environmental sustainability through creative recycling in schools across the Fanteakwa North District.
The educational outreach, facilitated by Ms Cynthia Essel, District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Fanteakwa North District, and Mr George Asumadu, District Director of the National Commission on Culture (CNC), engaged students and teachers of Seventh Day Adventist Basic School, Nation Builders Preparatory School, and Feden D/A Basic School during the first week of June 2026.
More than 200 participants were introduced to innovative ways of transforming plastic waste into artistic creations. Using discarded plastic bottle tops and other waste materials collected from their surroundings, students worked collaboratively to produce colourful artworks while learning about environmental conservation and responsible waste management.
Mr Asumadu guided participants through the process of sorting, cleaning, and categorising plastic materials before assembling them into creative pieces of art. The students were also challenged to develop exhibition pieces for display during the upcoming Plastic Waste Art Exhibition.
The initiative seeks to combat plastic pollution, promote environmental stewardship, and instill civic responsibility among young people by demonstrating how waste can be converted into valuable cultural and artistic products.
The project was implemented with support from the Fanteakwa North District Assembly and Acrylix Ghana as part of efforts to encourage sustainable environmental practices and community participation in protecting the environment.
