NCCE Keta Marks Citizenship Week with Educational Visit to Keta Police Station

Learners of KETASCO 1 and 2 M.A. Basic Schools in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region joined their counterparts across the country to commemorate the 2026 Citizenship Week celebration on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026.

The programme, organized by the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) with support from the Ghana Police Service, was held under the national theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” and the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”

As part of the celebration, the learners visited the Keta Police Station, where they received civic and security education from the Station Officer, Chief Inspector Boateng. He explained the core functions of the Ghana Police Service, including maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, preventing crime, and ensuring peace and security within communities.

Chief Inspector Boateng also advised the learners on the importance of obeying the laws of Ghana and using digital platforms responsibly to avoid infringing on the rights of others online. He emphasized the need for children to demonstrate good citizenship both offline and online.

To enhance the learning experience, the learners were introduced to some of the tools and equipment used by the Police Service in its daily operations, including handcuffs, service vehicles, and other law enforcement equipment. The practical demonstration helped the pupils gain a better understanding of police work and the role of technology in modern policing.

The visit also provided an opportunity for learners to ask questions about policing, online safety, and responsible digital behavior. The interactive session encouraged them to uphold good moral values and become law-abiding citizens in both physical and digital spaces.

School authorities expressed appreciation to Chief Inspector Boateng and the Ghana Police Service for their support and commitment to educating the younger generation. They noted that the programme had deepened the learners’ understanding of citizenship, constitutional responsibilities, digital discipline, and the role of the Police Service in national development.

The Citizenship Week celebration ended successfully, with learners gaining valuable knowledge about the 1992 Constitution, responsible digital citizenship, and the critical role of the Ghana Police Service in maintaining peace and security.
