NCCE Engages Ghana Immigration Service in Techiman on Responsible Digital Citizenship

# GIS Officers in Techiman Sensitised on Responsible Digital Citizenship

Officers and men of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Techiman have received training on responsible digital citizenship as the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) intensified public education during the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration.

The engagement, organised by the Bono East Regional Office of the NCCE on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, sought to deepen the officers' understanding of their constitutional responsibilities in the digital space while equipping them with knowledge to identify and respond to emerging cyber threats.

Addressing participants, the Bono East Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Joseph Kwaku Yeboah, said the Constitution Week Celebration, instituted in 2001, remains one of the Commission's flagship civic education programmes aimed at promoting constitutionalism and democratic governance. He explained that this year's theme, **"Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,"** reflects the growing influence of digital technology on governance, national security, and civic participation.

Mr. Yeboah observed that while digital platforms have transformed communication and access to information, they have also created opportunities for the spread of misinformation and disinformation, cyber fraud, identity theft, online impersonation, privacy breaches, and other cyber-related offences. He urged the officers to exercise caution online and become advocates for responsible digital behaviour within their institutions and communities.

The participants were taken through key topics including misinformation and disinformation, cybersecurity, Ghana's cyber threat landscape, phishing and social engineering attacks, mobile money and digital financial fraud, and the provisions of the Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038). The Regional Director explained that cybercriminals increasingly exploit human behaviour rather than technology alone, making public awareness and vigilance essential.

He encouraged the officers to uphold the principles enshrined in Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution by using digital platforms responsibly and supporting efforts to combat online abuse, hate speech, and cybercrime.

Supporting the Regional Director during the engagement were Mr. Muru David, Assistant Director; Ms. Afusatu Yekeen, Senior Civic Education Officer; Mr. Nyarko Louis Nelly, Civic Education Officer; and Mr. Joseph Lartey, Civic Education Officer.

The programme formed part of the NCCE's nationwide Constitution Week activities aimed at strengthening citizens' appreciation of constitutional democracy while promoting safe, responsible, and lawful participation in Ghana's digital space.
