NCCE Educates Zonal Council Members on Decentralization and Community Development

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has educated members of the Nsuaem and Nananko Zonal Councils on the essence of decentralization, local governance, and the need to revive the communal spirit to promote community development.

The education was delivered by Mr. Daniel Boateng, the district director, during the inauguration and swearing-in of members of the two Zonal Councils at the Nsuaem and Nananko Methodist Churches.

Mr. Boateng emphasized the importance of decentralization and local government in promoting effective participation of citizens in decision-making and addressing development needs at the local level.

He also encouraged members of the Zonal Councils and community members to revive the spirit of communal labor and self-help initiatives to address developmental challenges, particularly in the areas of sanitation and community development.

He noted that active citizen participation and collective responsibility were essential to improving living conditions and ensuring sustainable development in local communities.

The program was attended by Hon. Matthew Manu, Presiding Member of the Wassa Amenfi East Municipal Assembly (WAEMA); Mr. Ibrahim Awari, Coordinating Director of WAEMA; Assembly Members and Unit Committee Members within the two Zonal Councils.

Heads of departments from the Physical Planning Department, Budget Unit, Municipal Finance Office, and the NCCE were also present.

Traditional leaders and elders from Nsuaem and Marfokrom who attended the program included Nana Kofi Dwira, Kontihene of Nsuaem 2; Nana Kofi Bref, Odikro of Marfokrom; Nana Kwadwo Mama, Odikro of Nsuaem 2; and Nana Owusu Patrick, Gyasehene of Nsuaem.

The inauguration and civic education formed part of efforts to strengthen local governance, promote citizen participation, and encourage communities to take collective responsibility for their development and sanitation.
