Citizenship Week Celebration: Ga South NCCE rallies Students to Uphold Constitutional Values Online

The Ga South Municipal Directorate of the NCCE, in an interaction with students of some schools in the enclave, has called on them to uphold constitutional values and demonstrate responsible behaviour in the digital space.

The engagements form part of the Commission's 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, hinged on the overarching theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility” and the sub-theme “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”

Officials from the Directorate visited selected schools within the Ga South Municipality, including Spring Garden International School, Newfield International School, and Tsokomey M/A Basic School, where they sensitised young learners on the principles of responsible digital citizenship.

Speaking during the sessions, an Assistant Director, Stella Adu Larbi, together with an Assistant Civic Education Officer of the Commission, Erica Kunaku, highlighted the importance of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and encouraged pupils to use social media responsibly.

Key areas, including online safety, protection against cyberbullying, digital ethics, and their role in promoting peace, discipline, and national unity in the digital environment, were extensively discussed at each session.

According to the officials, the 1992 Constitution remains the foundation of Ghana’s democracy, and every citizen, including children, has a responsibility to uphold its principles both offline and online.

They further encouraged the young ones to use digital platforms positively, avoid harmful online activities, and respect the rights and opinions of others in their digital interactions.

Pupils were also advised to be cautious about the nature of information they share and to consistently demonstrate values such as honesty, tolerance, respect, and responsibility in the digital space.
