NCCE Educates Tricycle Riders in Agona Nyakrom on Road Safety and Discipline

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Agona West Municipal Office, has engaged tricycle riders in Agona Nyakrom on road safety, discipline and adherence to traffic regulations as part of its mandate to educate citizens on their rights and responsibilities.

Held at the Chief’s Palace in Agona Nyakrom, the engagement brought together the Omanhene, Nana Nyaku Adu, members of the Council of Traditional Rulers and Elders, including Queen Mothers, Divisional Chiefs, elders and linguists, as well as tricycle owners and riders.

The programme sought to address indiscipline among tricycle riders by raising awareness of road traffic laws and encouraging responsible behaviour on the roads.

Speaking at the engagement, the Agona West Municipal Director of the NCCE, Mr. Sekyi Sam, urged riders to prioritise the safety of passengers, pedestrians and other road users. He advised them to obey traffic signs and signals, avoid speeding and reckless driving, and refrain from overloading passengers and goods.

Mr. Sekyi Sam further encouraged riders to respect law enforcement and regulations issued by the traditional authorities, while ensuring that they obtained the necessary licences and registration documents for their operations.

Emphasising the importance of responsible road use, he noted that compliance with traffic regulations could help reduce road accidents, improve public confidence in tricycle transport and promote peaceful coexistence among road users.

Participants acknowledged their civic responsibilities and agreed on the need to adopt safer practices while operating within the municipality. The riders also recognised that discipline and respect for road safety regulations are essential to protecting lives and property.

The engagement forms part of the NCCE’s broader public education efforts to promote responsible citizenship, discipline and respect for the rule of law. Continuous education, coupled with effective enforcement of traffic regulations, remains vital to improving road safety and Ghana’s transportation system.
