The Kpone Katamanso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education, through its Oyibi Zonal Office, has commemorated Constitution Week with an educational engagement at Apollonia K.K.M.A. Junior High School.
The programme was held under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” It brought together students and teachers to discuss the relevance of constitutional values and responsible conduct in today’s increasingly digital society.
Addressing the students, the resource person highlighted the importance of understanding and upholding the principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution. Students were educated on their civic responsibilities and the role they play in protecting democratic values both offline and online.
Particular emphasis was placed on responsible social media use. Students were advised to refrain from spreading false or misleading information, as misinformation can negatively affect individuals, communities, and the nation as a whole. They were also cautioned against sharing personal information online or engaging in conversations with strangers, since such practices can expose them to internet fraud, cyberbullying, identity theft, and other online threats.
The session further underscored the need for students to become responsible digital citizens by exercising caution, critical thinking, and respect when using online platforms. The resource person encouraged participants to verify information before sharing it and to be mindful of the possible consequences of their online activities.
Students were also urged to harness technology positively by using digital tools for learning, innovation, research, and personal development. They were encouraged to cultivate values such as honesty, truthfulness, accountability, and integrity, especially when creating, posting, commenting, or sharing content online.
The interactive engagement provided students with practical knowledge on how constitutional values can guide their behaviour in the digital space. It also reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding Ghana’s democracy and promoting a safer, more informed digital environment.
The programme concluded with a question-and-answer session, during which students shared their experiences and demonstrated keen interest in responsible digital citizenship and constitutional governance.
The event formed part of nationwide activities marking Constitution Week, aimed at promoting awareness of the 1992 Constitution and encouraging responsible citizenship among young people.
