NCCE Educates East Mamprusi Students on Responsible Digital Citizenship

As part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the East Mamprusi Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) conducted educational engagements in selected basic schools within the municipality to promote responsible digital citizenship among students.

The program aimed to educate learners on the responsible use of the internet and social media, while highlighting the importance of upholding the values and principles enshrined in the 1992 Constitution.

During the presentations, students were taken through the opportunities offered by digital technology, including online learning, communication, and creativity. They were also sensitized to the risks associated with internet use, such as misinformation, cyberbullying, online scams, exposure to inappropriate content, and privacy threats.

Students were encouraged to respect others online, avoid cyberbullying and insults, verify information before sharing, protect their personal information, report harmful or suspicious online activities, and use social media positively and responsibly.

The facilitators reminded the students that although the Constitution guarantees rights such as freedom of expression, such rights must be exercised responsibly. Learners were advised to ask themselves important questions before sharing information online, including whether the information is true, respectful, harmful to others, or something they would be proud for their parents, teachers, or community to see.

The engagement was highly interactive, with students actively participating by answering questions and sharing their experiences regarding the use of social media and the internet.

The program concluded with a call on students to become responsible digital citizens and uphold constitutional values both offline and online. The engagement significantly contributed to increasing awareness of safe and responsible online behavior among school children in the municipality.
