The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organised a community sensitisation programme on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) at the Manso Asuminya Christian Adventist Church on Sunday, June 7, 2026, as part of efforts to promote constitutional values, human rights, and responsible citizenship.
The programme was held under the NCCE's 2026 annual theme, “Upholding the Constitution in Our Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” The engagement sought to educate congregants on the prevalence of Gender-Based Violence, its effects on individuals, families, and communities, and the collective role citizens must play in preventing and addressing the menace.
Addressing the gathering, the District Director of NCCE, Mr Aziz Adjei Laryea, underscored the constitutional provisions that guarantee the dignity, equality, and fundamental human rights of all persons. He emphasised that Gender-Based Violence is a violation of these rights and called on community members to support efforts aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, especially women and children.
Mr Laryea further noted that upholding the Constitution requires citizens to reject all forms of violence, discrimination, and abuse while promoting respect, justice, and peaceful coexistence within their communities.
Also speaking at the event, Mr Stephen Agyei, Senior Civic Education Officer, educated participants on the various forms of Gender-Based Violence, including physical, emotional, psychological, sexual, and economic abuse. He encouraged victims and witnesses to report incidents to the appropriate authorities and stressed the importance of community support systems in combating GBV.
Participants were taken through interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions, which enhanced their understanding of constitutional rights and responsibilities in relation to Gender-Based Violence. The congregation expressed appreciation to the NCCE for the timely and informative programme.
The sensitisation forms part of the Commission's ongoing efforts to deepen civic awareness and encourage active citizen participation in safeguarding constitutional democracy and promoting a society free from violence and abuse.
