The NCCE has organized an advocacy workshop for some of the country's senior journalists, reporters, editors, producers, managers and morning show hosts drawn from 9 regions of the country. The workshop is part of activities under the EU-funded Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism (PCVE) project being implemented in 5 regions in the north ( Upper East, Upper West, Savannah, North East & Northern Regions) and 3 adjourning border regions (Bono, Bono East & Oti Regions).

The role of the media in preventing extremist activities is crucial hence the engagement with the media practitioners in Tamale, the Northern Regional capital. The workshop sought to spell out the media's role in preventing violent extremism.

At the workshop, the need for the media to constantly hammer on extremist activities and their negative impact on society was repeated by the various speakers including Dr. Baba Sayuti of the National Counter and Fusion Centre of the Ministry of National Security, Mrs. Afua Lamptey, Deputy Programme Head of Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping and Training Centre (KAIPTC) and Ambassador Haruna Attah.

The Chairperson of NCCE, Ms. Kathleen Addy was passionate about the need for the media to use their platforms to champion the cause against violent extremism. She also urged the media to educate and inform citizens on the threats extremists pose to society and the country as a whole. Ms. Addy again charged the media to partner with the NCCE to raise public awareness on violent extremism.

Present at the workshop were the Deputy Chairman, Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah and Deputy Chairman, Finance and Administration, Lawyer Victor Brobbey.

The PCVE project is supported by the European Union.
