Tema Metro NCCE Strengthens Ties with Tema East MP

The Tema Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has paid a courtesy visit to the Member of Parliament for Tema East, Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten, as a step towards deepening alliance with policymakers in the civic engagement endeavours within the metropolis.

Leading the delegation was a senior staff of the office, Mr. Fidel Bortey, who outlined the 2026 programme of activities and indicated the Commission’s working theme: “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.”

Key areas central to civic education in the Metropolis included tax education, anti-corruption and sanitation campaigns, cyberbullying and drug abuse sensitisation, child protection advocacy, and student-focused projects such as the Constitution Quiz, Project Citizen, and Civic Education Clubs. The team also briefed the MP on the upcoming Social Audit meeting scheduled for February 25, 2026.

The Commission’s Director of Programmes, Dr. Imurana Mohammed, emphasised that civic education cannot be left solely to the NCCE but requires the active involvement of stakeholders, particularly policymakers.

He underscored the importance of strengthening public understanding of the Constitution in the face of digital transformation and constitutional review, warning against the dangers of misinformation. He expressed gratitude for Hon. Odamtten’s continued support and called for deeper collaboration to enhance citizen participation.

In his remarks, Hon. Isaac Ashai Odamtten commended the Commission’s dedication to promoting constitutionalism and assured the team of his unwavering support. He stressed the need to intensify public education on the roles of governance actors to dispel misconceptions about public office.

Importantly, he encouraged the Metro Office of the NCCE to engage past chief executives, former MPs, retired public servants, and other experienced personalities within Tema to serve as mentors during Citizenship Week celebrations. According to him, drawing on their lived experiences would inspire students, instil leadership values, and reinforce civic responsibility among the youth.

He further pledged his availability for future programmes, including parliamentary dialogues, and reiterated his commitment to supporting the NCCE’s mandate of promoting integrity and accountability.
