SEKYERE SOUTH NCCE SOCIAL AUDITING YIELDS RESULT

The Sekyere South District (Morso) of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organized a Social Auditing progamme with the aim of igniting citizen’s interest in the democratic and developmental processes.

Social Auditing is one of the Commission’s Flagship programmes whichseeks to promote transparency and accountability among public office holders and citizens’ participation in governance.

It gives members of a community the opportunity to pool together resources and undertake urgent projects within the community. Members are also encouraged to initiate projects that are essential to their survival in order to hold government accountable.

The Sekyere South District Director of the NCCE, Mr. Evans Nunoo, Morso District Director led discussions with community members to propose and select a project to be implemented. Also present were Nana Kwaku Nimako (Morso Odikro), Mr. Joseph Amponsah (Assembly Member) and Mr. Kennedy Owusu (Project Leader).

Projects discussed include a toilet facility, construction of gutter along the principal streets of Morso and also the construction of a Junior High School Block for the community,

After several deliberations, it was unanimously agreed that a Junior High School Block be constructed since the community urgently needed one. A committee led by Mr. Kennedy Owusu was formed and tasked to mobilize resources for construction work to begin.

All members of the community contributed some amounts to support the project. The males contributed Ghc50.00 and female contributed GHc30.00. The team leader, Mr. Owusu donated 17 bags of cement and one thousand cement blocks for the project. A Sand Weaning Company and the Parent-Teacher Association (P.T.A) of the Junior High School also contributed towards the project.

Currently, the project is valued at GHc40, 000.00 and getting funds to complete it has proven difficult. The community is however appealing to all well-meaning Ghanaians to come to their aid whether in cash or building materials to enable them to acquire tables and chairs for the students, office desks for staff and to construct offices for the head teacher and staff.
