NCCE/ACET ORGANISES CITIZENS’ ENGAGEMENT TO ADDRESS SOME CHALLENGES FACED BY THE YOUTH IN THE EASTERN REGION

In collaboration with the African Centre for Economic Transformation (ACET), the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has organised a citizens’ engagement from 4th – 6th April 2024 at the Koforidua Guests’ Hotel, Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

This engagement is part of the activities to create a social contract between Ghana’s leaders and its citizens for Ghana’s Political and Economic Transformation. The social contract “Compact for Ghana’s Political and Economic Transformation” aims to address the fundamental problems underlying the country’s economic development challenges. Participants were mainly youth. Cut across issues affecting the youth such as poverty, poor education, poor health practices and social vices were addressed.

On the first day, the engagement focused on Private Sector Development and had participants from various private business sectors, groups, and associations, such as traders, entrepreneurs, businessmen, retired civil servants, hairdressers, mechanics and barbers.

On the second day, issues of Health, Gender, and Climate Change were discussed.

Participants were mainly selected from Traditional and Opinion Leaders, Religious Bodies, Public and Civil Servants, Academia, Media, Senior Citizens and Traders in the Region.

Finally, on the third day, the team sought to raise awareness at the grassroots to generate the conversation to understand how these issues affect citizens and solicit their recommendations as inputs into the Compact for the Social Contact between Ghana’s leaders and the Citizenry.
