NCCE Northeast Region Intensifies Community Education on Adolescent Health and GBV

The Northeast Regional Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has commenced a Mobile Van Broadcast to take key messages on adolescent reproductive health, gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence (GBV) directly to communities.

The initiative forms part of the Adolescent Girls’ Program (AGP), funded by Global Affairs Canada and implemented by UNFPA, which seeks to strengthen community awareness and empower adolescents and community members through sustained civic engagement.

The Mobile Van Broadcast is designed to reach a wide range of audiences, including parents, caregivers, men, women, adolescents and young people, particularly those in communities where access to relevant information may be limited. The broadcasts are conducted in local languages, with repeated messages to reinforce knowledge on adolescent health, sexual and reproductive health, gender equality and GBV prevention.

The messages emphasize the need to protect adolescent girls from violence, abuse and discrimination while promoting positive gender relations and encouraging individuals and communities to speak up against gender-based violence.

The exercise covers communities, markets, schools and lorry stations, combining live announcements with jingles to make the messages engaging, accessible and easier to understand.

The NCCE believes that taking these messages directly to the people will help increase awareness, promote informed decision-making and encourage positive behavioral change towards adolescent health, gender equality and the prevention of gender-based violence.
