NCCE Marks Citizenship Week with Digital Safety Education at Akpokope D/A Basic School

The Agotime-Ziope District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged pupils of Akpokope D/A Basic School as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.

The sensitization program, held under the theme "Growing Up Digital, the Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online," sought to equip pupils with the knowledge and skills needed to become responsible digital citizens while promoting constitutional values in the online space.

Addressing the pupils, Mr. Alexander Kodzobu, Guidance and Counselling Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), highlighted the importance of responsible online behavior. He introduced a simple but effective guide to digital safety using the acronym "TRAFFIC".

He explained that T stands for Trust, urging pupils to be cautious about whom and what they trust online. R represents Respect, encouraging learners to respect the opinions and views of others on digital platforms. A stands for Appropriate, reminding pupils to consider whether information is suitable before sharing it.

Mr. Kodzobu further explained that the first F stands for Fact, stressing the need to ensure that information is accurate. The second F represents Fair, encouraging pupils to avoid sharing content that could hurt, discriminate against, or dehumanize others. I stands for Information, emphasizing the importance of having credible facts before making posts online, while C stands for Check, urging pupils to verify information before forwarding or publishing it.

He concluded by reminding the pupils that Ghana's laws apply to everyone regardless of age, status, or background. He therefore encouraged them to be responsible and law-abiding in their online activities, noting that irresponsible use of digital platforms could attract legal consequences.

The engagement formed part of NCCE's nationwide Citizenship Week Celebration, which aims to instill civic responsibility and promote safe, responsible, and constitutionally guided digital citizenship among school children.
