The Keta Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified efforts to promote adolescent health and combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through a sensitization program for players and management of Aborigine Senior FC.
The engagement, held on June 13, 2026, focused on dismantling harmful social norms, preventing adolescent pregnancy, and addressing challenges surrounding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR).
The program formed part of the project titled “Empowering Community and Youth for Adolescent Health, Gender Equality, and Preventing Gender-Based Violence through Civic Engagement.” The initiative is being implemented nationwide by the NCCE in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), with funding support from Global Affairs Canada.
Addressing the players, the Keta Municipal Director of the NCCE, Lina Elinam Bensah, described Gender-Based Violence as a serious societal problem that affects individuals, destroys families, and hinders community development.
She noted that football clubs play a significant role in influencing young people and stressed the need for boys and men to actively participate in promoting respect for human rights and preventing abuse.
According to her, the sensitization program sought to promote positive behavioral change toward adolescent health, SRHR, and GBV prevention, while strengthening community participation in confronting harmful traditional practices.
Madam Bensah further encouraged the players to become ambassadors for change by using their influence to promote gender equality and protect adolescent reproductive health.
“Every child, especially the girl-child, deserves a safe and supportive environment to grow and thrive,” she emphasized.
She also urged the players to break the silence surrounding abuse and support efforts aimed at creating a safer, healthier, and more equitable society.
The program ended with a call on the team and community members to work together in preventing Gender-Based Violence and promoting the well-being of adolescents.
