NCCE Educates Pupils on Dangers of Drug Abuse

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has educated pupils of Taribiya M/A Basic School 1 and 2 and Ngleshie Amanfro Community Basic School on the dangers of drug abuse and its negative effects on their health, education, and future.

The educational program, under the theme “Say No to Drug Abuse – Protect Your Future,” was facilitated by Ms. Mabel Sroda Ahiagba, Assistant Director, and Ms. Rita Dzifa Aklinu, Senior Civic Education Officer.

The officers educated the pupils on the causes and consequences of drug abuse, identifying peer pressure, curiosity, and negative influence as some of the factors that could expose young people to harmful substances.

They cautioned the pupils against the misuse of substances such as alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and prescription medicines, stressing that drug abuse could adversely affect their health, concentration, academic performance and future development.

The pupils were encouraged to remain focused on their education, build positive friendships and engage in healthy and productive activities. They were also advised to seek guidance from trusted parents, teachers and other responsible adults whenever they faced challenges or pressure to use drugs.

As part of the program, the pupils pledged to avoid harmful drugs, resist negative peer pressure and make responsible choices that would contribute to their wellbeing and future success.

The program ended with a call on the pupils to protect their health, education and future by saying “NO” to drug abuse.
