As part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the Karaga Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged pupils of Karaga D/A Basic School on the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
The educational session aimed to equip pupils with knowledge and skills to navigate the digital space responsibly while upholding the values and principles of the 1992 Constitution. Pupils were educated on key topics including online safety, cyberbullying, digital privacy, and responsible use of social media platforms.
The Municipal Director, Mr. Osman Mahama, advised the pupils to verify sources of information before sharing, commenting on, or posting content online. He explained that the spread of misinformation and disinformation can have serious consequences for individuals and society, and therefore encouraged them to be responsible digital citizens.
Mr. Mahama further emphasized that activities conducted online can have real-life implications, reminding the pupils that whatever they post or share on the internet can affect their reputation, relationships, and future opportunities.
The pupils were also encouraged to uphold constitutional values such as respect, tolerance, responsibility, and peaceful coexistence both online and offline in order to contribute to peace and harmony within their communities.
In conclusion, the pupils were reminded that although they are young, their actions in the digital space matter and can contribute positively to national development. They were encouraged to use digital platforms responsibly and become ambassadors of good citizenship for the benefit of Ghana.
