The Central Tongu District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged pupils of Global D/A Primary and Methodist D/A JHS on the need to uphold the 1992 Constitution, particularly in the digital space, as part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration.
The event, held on June 5, 2026, was under the national theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” with the sub-theme, “Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online.”
Addressing the pupils, resource persons Miss Victor Afi Bosson and Miss Delali Adzomani stressed that the freedom of speech guaranteed by the Constitution comes with responsibility. They urged students to verify information before sharing it on social media, avoid spreading false news, and respect the dignity of others both online and offline.
“Your clicks, shares, and comments online must protect our democracy, not destroy it,” Miss Bosson told the pupils. “Growing up digital means acting like a responsible Ghanaian even when no teacher is watching.”
Miss Adzomani also noted that insulting people or sharing fake news on social media remains wrong under the law. She encouraged the students to ask questions whenever they are in doubt and to lead by example in their homes and communities.
The interactive session was facilitated by Sir Kodzodza Ceasar, who used a short drama titled “Clicking with the Constitution” to demonstrate how pupils can apply constitutional values in their daily lives. In the drama, pupils chose not to share a false post about the cancellation of the BECE after confirming the information with their teacher, earning praise from their Headmistress, Madam Rejoice Aglanu.
The program ended with a pledge by the pupils: “We are Ghanaian, we are Digital, we are Responsible.”
The NCCE Central Tongu District Office stated that the engagement forms part of its mandate to promote civic awareness and responsible citizenship among the youth.
