NCCE Amansie West Educates Manso Nkwanta Methodist JHS Pupils on Responsible Digital Citizenship

As part of the National Commission for Civic Education's (NCCE) annual Citizenship Week Celebration, the Amansie West District Directorate engaged pupils of Manso Nkwanta Methodist Junior High School on Wednesday, 3rd June 2026, under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” The programme focused on promoting responsible digital citizenship among young people.

Addressing the pupils, the District Director of NCCE, Mr. Aziz Adjei Laryea, explained that digital citizenship involves the responsible and appropriate use of digital technologies, including social media, online platforms, and mobile devices. He emphasized the need to respect the rights of others online, safeguard personal information, and use digital platforms in ways that support national development and democratic values.

Furthermore, Mr. Laryea cautioned the pupils against cyberbullying, the spread of misinformation and disinformation, online fraud, and other harmful digital practices. He encouraged them to verify information before sharing it and to use social media as a tool for learning, innovation, and positive social engagement.

In addition, the Senior Civic Education Officer, Mr. Stephen Agyei, highlighted the rights and responsibilities of young people in the digital space. He noted that while the internet offers enormous opportunities for education and communication, users must exercise discipline, critical thinking, and respect for the law when engaging online.

The resource persons further urged the pupils to become responsible digital ambassadors within their schools and communities by promoting safe internet practices and demonstrating positive online behavior.

Meanwhile, the pupils actively participated in the discussion by asking questions and sharing their experiences regarding social media use and online safety. The interactive session enhanced their understanding of digital citizenship and the role they can play in creating a safer and more responsible online environment.

The Citizenship Week Celebration forms part of NCCE's efforts to instill civic values, constitutional awareness, and responsible citizenship among schoolchildren and the general public.
