Jirapa NCCE Marks World Environment Day with Climate Action Awareness Programme

The Jirapa Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has commemorated World Environment Day with an educational programme aimed at inspiring young people to take action in protecting the environment. The event was held at Mwinbaballah Solid Rock Academy under the theme “Climate Action: Inspired by Nature, for Climate, for Our Future.”

The programme brought together pupils from St. Anthony JHS, St. Agnes JHS, and Mwinbaballah Solid Rock Academy, who participated in a series of creative presentations to demonstrate their understanding of environmental conservation and climate action.

Through poems and drama performances, the pupils highlighted the urgent need to plant more trees, protect the environment, and adopt sustainable practices. They also called for an end to illegal mining, indiscriminate disposal of waste, and the indiscriminate felling of trees for charcoal production, stressing that such activities continue to threaten the country's natural resources and future.

The performances further emphasized that climate change is a shared responsibility and that everyone, particularly the younger generation, has a role to play in protecting the environment. Participants appealed to citizens to adopt environmentally friendly practices and become active champions of climate action within their communities.

Additionally, the pupils called on leaders at all levels to prioritize climate action and environmental education in schools across the country. According to them, investing in environmental sustainability today is essential to securing a better future for generations to come. They cautioned that failure to act decisively could leave future generations regretting today's inaction by the year 2045.

The programme concluded with a renewed call for collective action to protect the environment through tree planting, proper waste management, and responsible use of natural resources.
