The Jirapa Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has intensified its Citizenship Week activities by engaging pupils in various basic schools across the municipality on the theme "Upholding the Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility".
The sensitisation programmes were conducted during school morning and afternoon assembly sessions, providing an opportunity to educate pupils on their civic responsibilities and the importance of upholding constitutional values.
During the engagements, pupils were encouraged to become agents of positive change by promoting good national values, supporting Ghana’s democratic principles, and fulfilling their civic duties as responsible citizens. The NCCE officers emphasised that active citizenship begins at a young age and plays a critical role in national development.
A key focus of the discussions was responsible digital citizenship. Pupils were educated on the appropriate use of social media and other digital platforms and were cautioned against the spread of misinformation and other harmful online practices. They were encouraged to verify information before sharing it and to use digital platforms in ways that promote respect, truth, and national unity.
The officers also stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and national cohesion, reminding the pupils that regardless of their backgrounds, they are all part of one national family working towards the development of Ghana.
Participants were encouraged to embrace values such as honesty, discipline, respect, and patriotism, which are essential for building a peaceful and prosperous nation.
The school outreach forms part of NCCE’s nationwide Citizenship Week campaign aimed at nurturing civic consciousness among young people and empowering them to uphold the principles of the 1992 Constitution both online and offline.
