Gomoa East NCCE Engages Fashion Trainees and Tailors on Anti-Corruption and Ethical Values

The Gomoa East Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has engaged trainees and management of Solida Fashion Institute on the need to support the fight against corruption and promote ethical values in society.

The engagement formed part of the Commission’s efforts to educate citizens on the effects of corruption and encourage responsible behaviour towards building a stronger nation.

The programme, facilitated by the Gomoa East NCCE Director, Mr. Charles Paintsil, brought together female trainees and their trainer. The session was highly interactive, providing participants with the opportunity to ask questions and discuss practical issues relating to corruption.

Mr. Paintsil defined corruption as the abuse or wrongful use of entrusted power for personal gain. He highlighted bribery, fraud and collusion as some common forms of corruption and explained that corrupt behaviour could begin with seemingly insignificant acts in everyday life.

He cited the practice of promising or giving children sweets, such as candy or toffee, to influence them to attend school or perform certain tasks as an example of how inducements can gradually shape attitudes towards improper conduct if not addressed early.

Participants identified greed, low wages, and weak ethical standards among the factors that contribute to corruption. The effects discussed included loss of public trust and credibility, poor service delivery, lack of transparency and accountability, and disregard for the rule of law.

Mr. Paintsil stressed the need for citizens, particularly young people, to uphold integrity and ethical values in their daily activities, noting that the fight against corruption requires collective action and a strong commitment to responsible conduct.

Participants were encouraged to share the knowledge gained with others and demonstrate integrity in their personal and professional activities to help positively influence the wider society.

As part of the same objective, the Gomoa East NCCE Office also held a similar anti-corruption sensitisation programme with members of the Co-operative Tailors Association in the Budumburam community.
