A high-powered delegation from the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet), led by the Director-General, Dr. Eric Asuman, has paid a working visit to the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE). The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties with the Commission and explore areas of convergence for a long-term partnership.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Asuman emphasised the crucial role the Commission plays in the country's democratic system of governance, indicating the essence of civic education even in the current dispensation.
He added that, having previously worked with the NCCE for a good number of years, he has a high sense of appreciation for the mandate of the Commission and the strategies outlined towards ensuring the utmost delivery of same. He cited the Social Auditing flagship programme of the NCCE as a powerful initiative which hands over development to the masses.
While highlighting some of the services GMet provides, including daily forecast, climate change analysis, air quality forecasting, among others, the Director-General further intimated that GMet, over the years, has had to grapple with the challenge of misconstruction due to the seemingly technical information it usually churns out for public use.
With NCCE’s expertise in public education, Dr. Asuman expressed optimism that the collaboration will go a long way to ensuring that meteorological information is broken down to the understanding of the average Ghanaian. He additionally stated that liaising with the Commission is an opportunity to leverage its reachability in order to make the necessary impact.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the NCCE, Deputy Chairman of General Services, Mr. Victor Brobbey, welcomed the partnership, stressing the need for collaborations among state institutions. He assured GMet of NCCE’s full cooperation, availing the Commission’s flagship programmes as platforms that the former can capitalize to reach out to the populace.
The Director-General of GMet was accompanied by his two Deputies in charge of Operations and General Services, Dr. Ignatius Kweku Williams and Mrs. Vivian Abla Kally, respectively, as well as other management members of his outfit.
