CONTRIBUTE TO THE DEVELOPMENT AND THE GOVERNANCE OF YOUR COMMUNITY, PARTICIPANTS URGED

The South Tongu District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE); Mr. Seth Fiagorme engaged members of the Garment Markers Association of Ghana in the Sogakope North, South, and Central Electoral areas at the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) in Sogakope, Volta Region.

This forms part of planned activities of the Commission to mark the 2023 Annual Constitution Week celebration on the theme: “30 Years of Consolidating Constitutional Democracy, Building National Cohesion through Civic Education and Participating in Local Governance”.

The highlights of the engagements were the functions of the District Assembly, (Section 12 of the Local Government Act, 2016, Act 936), the composition of the District Assembly, (Article 242 of the 1992 Constitution), and the upcoming District Level Elections (DLE) as well as the need for citizens to participate in decision-making processes and governance at the local level.

Mr. Fiagorme urged the over a hundred garment makers in Sogakope and its immediate environs to get involved and contribute to the development of their communities. This, he said could be done by either contesting as an Assembly/ Unit Committee Member or by turning up on the day of the election to vote massively for their preferred candidate if the Electoral Commission declares a date for the elections.
