Upper East Regional NCCE celebrates Consitution Week with Ghana National Fire Service

As part of activities to mark the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration, the Upper East Regional Office of the NCCE has engaged officers of the Ghana National Fire Service on the role of citizens and public institutions in safeguarding Ghana's democracy in a digital era.

Addressing participants, Head of Programmes at the Regional Office, Bridget Akpanaba, highlighted the significance of Constitution Week. She explained that the annual celebration was instituted in 2001 to commemorate citizens' endorsement of the 1992 Constitution as a binding legal framework to guide our democratic system, while promoting public understanding of its provisions, values, and principles. She further noted that the observance continues to serve as an important platform for educating citizens on their rights and responsibilities under the Constitution.

Deputy Regional Director, Augustine Akugri emphasized that while digital technologies have created opportunities for communication, innovation, and access to information, they have also introduced challenges such as misinformation, cybercrime, online abuse, and threats to privacy and national security. He thus urged participants to uphold constitutional values and promote responsible use of digital platforms in both their personal and professional lives.

Mr. Akugri additionally stressed that protecting Ghana's constitutional democracy in the digital age requires the collective efforts of state institutions, security agencies, civil society organizations, the media, and citizens.

Participants actively engaged in discussions on the relevance of the Constitution to their work as fire officers and the importance of responsible digital conduct. They also shared views on how security agencies can contribute to promoting constitutional values and public trust through ethical use of digital technologies.
