NCCE URGES SALAGA TI AMASS STUDENTS TO UPHOLD RULE OF LAW AND REJECT CORRUPTION

The North East Gonja District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education, with support from GIZ, has engaged students of Salaga TI Amass on the rule of law and the fight against corruption, as part of efforts to deepen civic awareness and promote responsible citizenship among young people.

The engagement, held on Friday, 15th May 2026, at Salaga TI AMASS, brought together students, patrons of the Civic Education Club, the Assistant Headmaster in charge of Administration, and the North East Gonja District Director of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ).

In her opening remarks, the NCCE District Director, Ms. Martha Bagbin, said the theme was critical to Ghana’s democratic growth and national development. She explained that every democratic society thrives when citizens respect the law, uphold civic values, and reject corruption in all its forms.

Ms. Bagbin encouraged the students to see themselves as important partners in building a just and accountable society. She noted that the fight against corruption should not be left to public institutions alone, but must begin with individual honesty, discipline, and respect for lawful authority.

The North East Gonja District Director of CHRAJ, Mr. Moses Inkunjon, also delivered a presentation on ethical leadership, conflict of interest, influence peddling, and abuse of office. He urged the students to understand how unethical conduct weakens public trust, affects development, and undermines fairness in society.

Mr. Inkunjon further encouraged young people to report wrongdoing through lawful channels and to resist practices such as cheating, favouritism, bribery, and misuse of authority, whether in schools, homes, communities, or future workplaces.

The programme formed part of NCCE’s continuous civic education efforts to nurture active, law-abiding, and corruption-conscious citizens. It also reinforced the role of Civic Education Clubs in shaping students to become responsible leaders who value integrity and accountability.

The NCCE called on students, teachers, parents, traditional authorities, and community members to support the fight against corruption by promoting honesty, respecting the rule of law, and speaking up against wrongdoing.

The engagement ended successfully, with participants encouraged to become ambassadors of integrity in their school and communities.
