The Savannah Regional Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education has engaged students and staff of the Damongo College of Agriculture and Allied Sciences on the need to uphold the rule of law, promote ethical leadership, and support the fight against corruption.
The civic education programme, held on Tuesday, 19th May 2026, at the Oxfam Conference Hall of the College, formed part of activities under the PAIReD Programme, with support from GIZ, the European Union, SECO, and the Ministry of Finance.
The engagement brought together the Dean of Students, the Patron of the NCCE Civic Education Club, staff members, members of the Club, Chief Tiduropewura Abdallah Ahmed, and other participants. The programme aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of democratic values, ethical conduct, human rights, conflict of interest, and their role in preventing corruption.
Delivering a presentation, the Savannah Regional Director of the NCCE, Mr. Zitor, urged members of the Civic Education Club to demonstrate ethical leadership in their daily lives. He stressed that ethical conduct remains critical in preventing corruption and building a society guided by accountability, transparency, and respect for the law.
Mr. Zitor noted that young people have an important role to play in shaping Ghana’s democratic future and must therefore uphold values that promote integrity, responsible citizenship, and national development.
The resource person, Chief Tiduropewura Abdallah Ahmed, also highlighted the importance of understanding conflict of interest and human rights in the fight against corruption. He explained that corruption affects not only national politics and public institutions but also the personal lives of citizens, communities, and future generations.
He urged the younger generation to demonstrate patriotism, integrity, and courage in resisting corrupt practices. He further encouraged members of the NCCE Civic Education Club to serve as ambassadors of civic responsibility by helping to build public awareness and encouraging citizens to condemn and fight corruption in all forms.
The engagement ended with a call on students to uphold the rule of law, respect human rights, avoid conflicts of interest, and contribute actively to the promotion of accountable governance and national development.
