NCCE Promotes Constitutional Literacy on Coastal TV in Cape Coast

Mr. Joseph Abban of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has called for the wider distribution of copies of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana to schools, educational institutions and other key institutions across the country as part of efforts to deepen constitutional literacy and responsible citizenship.

Speaking on the Coastal TV Morning Show in Cape Coast, Mr. Abban emphasised the importance of making the Constitution more accessible, particularly to young people. He noted that increased access to the Constitution would help students and citizens better understand their fundamental rights and freedoms, civic responsibilities, democratic values and the principles of good governance.

Mr. Abban explained that the distribution of copies of the Constitution remains an important component of the NCCE’s civic and constitutional education efforts. He stressed that schools and educational institutions provide a critical platform for nurturing informed and responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s democratic development.

As part of the engagement in Cape Coast, Mr. Abban presented copies of the 1992 Constitution to the Management of Coastal TV. He acknowledged the media as a strategic partner in civic education and underscored its role in promoting accurate information, responsible citizenship and constitutional awareness.

The engagement also provided an opportunity to encourage the media, schools, institutions and the general public to make conscious efforts to know, understand and uphold the Constitution. Mr. Abban noted that citizens who understand the Constitution are better positioned to appreciate their rights, fulfil their responsibilities and participate effectively in Ghana’s democratic governance.
