As part of the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in the Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility,” the Ga South Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) engaged pupils of Afahjoy International School.
The engagement was facilitated by Mr. Dan Abonyi Yamoah and Mr. Abraham Amankwah Adjei, with support from Ms. Rita Dzifa Aklinu. The activity formed part of the Commission’s efforts to educate young people on their civic responsibilities in the digital era and promote responsible online behavior.
The resource persons sensitized pupils on the concept of digital citizenship and the importance of using digital platforms responsibly. Discussions focused on cyberbullying and trolling, internet fraud, misinformation and disinformation, and the need to verify information before sharing it online.
The pupils were encouraged to use social media responsibly, respect the rights and dignity of others, and refrain from engaging in activities that could harm individuals or society. They were also advised to avoid video calls with persons who request nude images or inappropriate content and to report such incidents to trusted adults, parents, teachers, or the appropriate authorities.
Furthermore, the facilitators emphasized that the responsibility of upholding the 1992 Constitution extends beyond the physical environment into the digital space. Pupils were urged to uphold democratic values, respect the rule of law, protect their digital footprint, and demonstrate honesty, tolerance, accountability, and responsible citizenship both online and offline.
The engagement enhanced the pupils’ understanding of responsible digital behavior and reinforced the importance of using technology in a manner that promotes constitutional values, personal safety, and national development.
