NCCE Dormaa West and CHRAJ Engage NKRANSTECH Students on Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption with Support from GIZ, EU, SECO and BMZ

In line with the NCCE’s deliberate efforts to combat corruption and promote responsible citizenship, the Dormaa West Office of the Commission has engaged students of Nkrankwanta Senior High Technical School (NKRANSTECH) to deepen their understanding of transparency, accountability, and respect for the rule of law as vital tools in the fight against corruption.

Addressing the students, the Officer-in-Charge of the Dormaa West Office of the NCCE, Mr. Emmanuel Attah, urged them to be law-abiding, accountable, and disciplined in their daily conduct. He explained that corruption is not limited to the misuse of public office, but also includes dishonest acts such as petty stealing, cheating, and abuse of entrusted responsibility.

Mr. Attah further advised the students to adhere to school rules, avoid violence, and report misconduct to the appropriate authorities rather than resorting to retaliation. He stressed that respect for rules and lawful procedures helps to promote peace, fairness, and discipline in schools and communities.

Concluding his presentation, Mr. Attah introduced the acronym FATHER, representing Fairness, Accountability, Transparency, Honesty, Equity, and Respect, as guiding values students should uphold in the broader fight against corruption.

Representing the Dormaa West Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice, Mr. Emmanuel Owusu-Agyei encouraged the students to acquaint themselves with the 1992 Constitution in order to better understand their civic rights and responsibilities.

He explained that corruption thrives when entrusted power is abused for personal gain and urged the students to report corrupt acts to the appropriate authorities. Mr. Owusu-Agyei further noted that the Whistleblowers Act, 2006 (Act 720), provides legal protection for persons who expose corrupt practices in good faith.

The interaction formed part of the NCCE’s project, “Strengthening the Rule of Law and the Fight Against Corruption in Ghana,” commissioned by BMZ, co-financed by the European Union and SECO, and implemented by GIZ.
