NCCE Abetifi Educates Tailors and Dressmakers on Responsible Internet Use

The Abetifi District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education has educated members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association in Abetifi on the safe and responsible use of the internet as part of activities marking the 2026 Constitution Week Celebration.

The engagement, held on 25th May 2026, was organised under the theme, “Upholding Our Constitution in a Digital Age: Our Collective Responsibility.” It aimed to promote responsible digital behaviour, online safety, and public awareness of citizens’ responsibilities in the digital space.

Speaking during the session, the Abetifi District Director of the NCCE, Ms. Roberta E. Koah, explained that while the internet and digital communication platforms provide enormous opportunities for individuals and businesses, they also expose users to risks when not used responsibly.

“The internet provides innumerable opportunities, but misusing it can land you in serious trouble,” she cautioned.

Ms. Koah educated participants on the dangers associated with cybercrime, misinformation, online fraud, identity theft, cyberbullying, and irresponsible use of social media. She advised members not to disclose sensitive information such as passwords, PIN codes, ATM details, and One-Time Passwords to unknown persons.

She further encouraged participants to verify information before sharing it online in order to prevent the spread of fake news and misinformation that could undermine public trust, social cohesion, and peaceful coexistence.

Participants were also taken through relevant provisions of Ghana’s Cybersecurity Act, 2020 (Act 1038), and the Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843). They were reminded that Article 41 of the 1992 Constitution enjoins citizens to uphold and defend the Constitution and the law, a duty which also requires responsible conduct in the digital space.

As part of the practical session, participants received tips on creating strong passwords, securing mobile phones, avoiding suspicious links, and communicating responsibly online to safeguard their personal information and digital activities.

The programme was highly interactive, allowing participants to ask questions and share experiences related to internet fraud, online scams, and other digital safety concerns.

The engagement formed part of the Commission’s continuous efforts to strengthen constitutional awareness and promote responsible digital citizenship among Ghanaians.
