The Jaman South Municipality joined the rest of the country in observing the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving with a solemn interfaith gathering held at the forecourt of the Jaman South Municipal Assembly.
The event brought together government officials, religious leaders, traditional authorities, security personnel, students, Assembly Members, and residents in a spirit of gratitude, unity, and national reflection under the theme, “Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want.”
The programme commenced with an opening prayer led by Rev. Joseph Bosea of Emmanuel Baptist Church, who invoked God's blessings, protection, and guidance for the municipality and the nation.
Among the dignitaries present were the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Siata Watara; the Presiding Member, Hon. Kwang Godfred, who chaired the occasion; the Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Emmanuel Oduro; heads of departments; Assembly Members; traditional authorities; religious leaders; security personnel; and members of the public.
In her address, Hon. Siata Watara expressed gratitude to God for His continued protection over the municipality and Ghana. She called on participants to remember in their prayers victims of the recent flooding in Accra and other affected areas, emphasizing the need for solidarity and compassion during times of national difficulty.
The Presiding Member, Hon. Kwang Godfred, urged residents to remain united and committed to peace, patriotism, and national development. He stressed that while prayer is essential, it must be complemented by responsible citizenship, integrity, and adherence to good moral values.
Delivering the sermon, Rev. Fr. John Addai Obeng, Parish Priest of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Drobo, reflected on the theme "Resetting Our Values to Build the Ghana We Want." Drawing inspiration from 1 Corinthians 12:12, he encouraged Ghanaians to embrace unity, honesty, selflessness, and mutual respect. He noted that just as the human body functions effectively when all its parts work together, national development can only be achieved when citizens unite around shared values and a common purpose.
The programme also showcased Ghana’s spirit of religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Sheikh Murtada of the Muslim Mission led participants in a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, while students of Hiddaya Senior High School presented a Hadith recitation highlighting the virtues of faith, discipline, and peaceful living.
Participants were further led in a session of praise and worship, creating an atmosphere of thanksgiving and spiritual reflection.
A significant feature of the programme was the offering of special intercessory prayers for the nation and its leaders. Rev. Addo of the Presbyterian Church, Krupiase, prayed for the President of the Republic, while the Imam of Japekrom offered prayers for the peace and development of the Jaman South Municipality. Apostle Dr. Simon Takyi also prayed for the Municipal Chief Executive, asking for wisdom, strength, and divine guidance in the discharge of her duties.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment by participants to uphold strong moral values, promote peaceful coexistence, and contribute meaningfully to national development. The event ended with a closing prayer led by Alhaji Amponsah, Deputy Chief Imam of the Drobo Central Mosque.
The observance formed part of nationwide activities aimed at fostering national unity, gratitude, and a collective commitment to building a peaceful and prosperous Ghana.
