Gwollu Girls Champion Responsible Digital Citizenship on Radio During NCCE Citizenship Week

As part of activities marking the 2026 Citizenship Week Celebration, the Sissala West District Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized members of the Gwollu Girls Model JHS to participate in a radio discussion program on Gwollu FM.

The radio discussion formed part of the Commission's efforts to amplify the voices of young people on the theme, "Growing Up Digital: The Ghanaian Child Upholding the Constitution Online." The program provided a platform for the students to share their experiences and lessons from the week-long civic education campaign.

During the discussion, the girls highlighted the importance of responsible digital citizenship and urged children and young people to use social media and other online platforms in ways that promote respect, responsibility, and compliance with the laws of Ghana. They shared key lessons from the Citizenship Week activities, including online safety, combating misinformation, preventing cyberbullying, and protecting personal information.

The students emphasized that the 1992 Constitution of Ghana applies both offline and online, stressing that every Ghanaian child has a duty to uphold democratic values, respect the rights of others, and contribute positively to the digital space. They encouraged their peers to verify information before sharing it online and to refrain from activities that could cause harm to individuals or communities.

The participants further appealed to listeners to support the NCCE's efforts to promote digital literacy and responsible online behavior among children and young people. They noted that the Citizenship Week Celebration had equipped them with valuable knowledge and confidence to serve as ambassadors for responsible digital citizenship within their schools and communities.

The program concluded with a call on parents, teachers, community leaders, and the media to work together in guiding children to use digital technologies in a safe, responsible, and lawful manner, while upholding the values and principles enshrined in Ghana's Constitution.
