Battle for supremacy among pupils at the junior high schools in NCCE Offinso quiz competition

The Offinso Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) organized its maiden Constitutional quiz competition among pupils at the junior high school level. The activity which took place on 15th February 2022 at BECO HOTEL inside Offinso brought together four Junior High Schools in the Municipality to battle each other on their knowledge on the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.

The selected schools were given ample time to prepare themselves for the quiz competition. The aim of the quiz competition was to groom students to be responsible and civic-minded citizens in building our fragile democracy. The selected schools for the quiz were; Christian Methodist JHS, Solid Foundation JHS, Starhouse Educational School Complex, and Offinso College of Education JHS.

Giving the welcome address, Mr. EMMANUEL ODURO- Municipal Director from the Directorate welcomed all the participating schools and the invited quest for the competition. He went further to say that the purpose of the competition was for each of us to understand what the ideals of democracy are and to do our best to move along with it. He said it to also to understand the Constitution which is the fundamental law of Ghana and finally to become good and patriotic citizens of the country, Ghana because in as much as the Constitution guarantees our freedoms and rights, we are also expected to perform our duties as citizens.

After a brief address by the Municipal Director, Mr. P K Ankamah a representative from Ghana Education Service in the Municipal was also given the platform to say a few words to encourage the pupils for the competition. In the words of Mr. Ankamah, he said it was good for the children to also learn outside of what is taught in their various schools because as they engage themselves in such activities, it broadens their minds and prepares them further for a better future. He also thanked the NCCE for such an initiative taken and urged us to make it count to other schools that were not chosen.

At the end of the quiz competition, Offinso College of Education JHS became victorious and would represent Offinso at the Zonal Competition scheduled between Kodie, Boamang, and Suame.
After the competition, the participating schools were awarded each taking five (5) pieces of the 1992 Constitution; crates of Can Malt, and a Constitutional Game Board. They were all refreshed with the support from the Member of Parliament, Hon Isaac Yaw Opoku through the Municipal Assembly.
