NCCE ORGANISE AWARENESS RAISING CAMPAIGN FOR NEW DRAMA SERIES

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has held an awareness-raising campaign on their maiden drama series Omanbapa: the Good Citizen at Joy Fm premises. This forms part of the Commission’s mandated function as stated in the NCCE Act 1993, Act (452), “to formulate, implement and oversee programmes intended to inculcate in the citizens of Ghana awareness of their civic responsibilities. Given this, the storyline touches on issues of relevance to Ghana such as corruption, environmental degradation, patriotism, and good neighborliness.

The Deputy in charge of Finance and Administration, Kathleen Addy together with some of the NCCE’s civic educators held placards promoting the Omanbapa series along the roadside. Omanbapa is set in modern Ghana and revolves around the lives of an upright Ghanaian citizen Mr. Kwame Brimpong, an assemblyman and teaching volunteer; his wife Isabella, a successful entrepreneur; their young daughter Yaa, who is passionate about the environment, Mike Tyson, a connection man; and a host of other interesting characters.

The Commission will use the TV series as a medium to intensify its conscientisation of the citizenry on their civic responsibilities, with the view to engendering civic-minded

citizenry for nation-building. Through these characters, the NCCE wishes to spark up a sober national discussion about “individual citizens, our societies and the kind of future we envisage for our country as a whole”. Omanbapa: the Good Citizen airs every Thursday and Sunday on Joy Prime at 6 pm and GHONE TV every Thursday at 8:30 pm.
