NCCE Yendi Office Sensitizes Public on Limited Voter Registration Exercise

The Yendi Municipal Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Mr. Osman Kassim has engaged the public on Naya Radio, regarding the Electoral Commission's Limited Voter Registration exercise which commenced 12th September, 2023 and ended on October 2, 2023.

During this radio engagement, the eligibility criteria stipulated in C.I. 91 were elucidated, and citizens were encouraged to participate in the registration process. This sensitization forms part of NCCE's activities on the limited voter registration exercise to help educate the public on the electoral process to foster an all-inclusive election in the coming months/year.

On eligibility, Mr. Osman Kassim noted that citizens must be 18 years or above and of sound mind, and those who were unable to register in the year 2020 because they were not of age or by any other factor, are eligible to register during this exercise. He also encouraged all eligible citizens to come out and register, thereby ensuring their right to vote in the upcoming district-level elections.

Mr. Kassim also touched on the guarantor system and emphasized that in cases where an applicant does not possess a Ghana card or passport, another registered voter can serve as a guarantor. However, it was stressed that guarantors should only vouch for individuals if they are certain that the information provided by the applicant is accurate. According to him, this is crucial to maintain the integrity of the voter registration process.

The Director also stated that the only designated Centre for registration was the Municipal Office of the Electoral Commission. He conducted a monitoring visit to the venue to assess the progress of the limited voter registration exercise. The primary objective was to evaluate the operational aspects and identify any technical issues that may hinder the registration process. The visit revealed that, overall, the registration exercise was proceeding smoothly with no major technical issues.
