NCCE/ WORLD VISION GHANA INAUGURATES A CHILD PARLIAMENT IN ATEBUBU

The Atebubu- Amantin Municipal office of the National Commission for Civic Education, (NCCE) with support from World Vision Ghana has inaugurated a forty (40) member Child Parliament project in Atebubu Amantin Municipality, Bono-East Region.

The objective of this project was to offer a platform to the youth in school to air their views, build their confidence and self-esteem, to demand accountability and transparency from the duty bearers in their district.

The Atebubu-Amantin Municipal director of the NCCE, Mr. Patrick Tampugre, said the initiative also sought to imbibe in them the art of public speaking, lobbying skills, and advocacy, especially on issues affecting child well-being in their communities. Speaking at the inauguration of the project, Mr. Tampugre, advised the students to take their studies seriously and desist from any act that could affect their future.

A representative of World Vision Ghana, Mr. Michael Clottey said, its partnership with the NCCE in the municipality said that the continuous partnership between both institutions has helped in fulfilling their mandates. This, he said was due to the fact that the mandates of both institutions are complementary. The NCCE’s mandate is to sensitise Ghanaians on their civic rights and responsibility as well as educate citizens to deepen the culture of democracy, whiles World Vision Ghana’s objective is to create lasting change in the lives of children, families, and communities, to overcome poverty and injustice. He indicated that the project was to ensure that Ghanaian children become active citizens and responsible leaders.

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atebubu-Amantin constituency, Hon. Sanja Nanja urged the children to take the opportunity to study the duties of a Member of Parliament in order to understand the functions of the legistature. He commended the World Vision Ghana for the numerous interventions in the municipality over the years. He thanked the Commission for its commitment to sustain the country’s democracy and called for adequate resources for the NCCE to enable it better execute its mandate.
