SUPPORT YOUR WARDS WITH FACEMASKS- NCCE ENTREATS PARENTS

The Director of Finance for the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Madam Monica Mamattah has called on parents to strictly adhere to the preventive protocols against the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and to support their wards with face masks as schools reopened.

She said the onus was on Ghanaians to ensure that regular hand washing with soap under running water, observance of social distancing, and the covering of the nose and mouth have become part of our lives, which are key to reducing the spread of the disease.

Madam Mamattah who addressed the people of the Yokoe Community in Penyi, Akpatoeme and its environs in the Ketu North Municipality, during a COVID-19 sensitization campaign, reiterated the importance of wearing face mask, saying “it is now unlawful to step out of one’s place of abode without the mask and the penalty for flouting the law is dire”.

“Parents of final year students who are yet to go to school must buy face masks for their wards before they report to school,” she stressed.

She commended the participants for wearing the face mask, urging them to keep it up in order to prevent the spread of the virus which she stressed was real and still infectious.

Madam Mamattah cautioned people to discard the notion that alcohol, marijuana and other illicit drugs could cure the disease and urged them to observe the safety protocols.

She said even though Government has eased restrictions, citizens need to consider the use of facemasks as a must. She appealed to the public to stop the stigmatisation and accept recovered persons back into the society.

The Ketu North District Director of the Commission, Mr Prosper Afealete entreated all to seek early medical treatment whenever they felt unwell, and emphasised on the need for pregnant and nursing mothers especially to frequently report to health centres for care.

He used the opportunity to remind residents about the upcoming voter registration exercise which takes place on June 30, 2020.
