The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Krachi East Municipality has initiated an extensive campaign against corruption in churches/savings groups/Persons Living with Disabilities-PWDs’ and other worshiping Centre’s.

The campaign is in partnership with the European Union to promote good governance, curb corruption, and improve accountability and compliance with the rule of law. As part of the project, the NCCE office engaged members of the Presbyterian Church, Pentecost Church-Lakeside, and E.C.G Church all of Dambai as well as Savings and Loan groups in Kpelema, Kparekpare, Nwane, Anyabor No.1 and Banka on anti-corruption and the Whistleblowers Act.

The Krachi East Municipal Director of NCCE, Clement Kwesi Mamadu, expressed gratitude to the European Union for their continuous support to stem-the-tide of corruption and promotion of participatory governance in Ghana. He said corruption; either alleged or proven, continues to bedevil the fortunes and economic progress of the country, describing as timely the support extended to the Commission to empower citizens to eschew the canker.

He mentioned some of the effects of corruption on marginalized groups, the vulnerable, and how it continues to hamper economic development. The corruption he explained, affects the rights of every citizen since duty-bearers allegedly demand or solicit money from citizens before rendering public service.

He called on citizens to help to enforce the provision of Article 41 (f) of the 1992 Constitution which states, “To protect and preserve public property and expose and combat misuse and waste of public funds and property”.

He encouraged participants to report any suspected act of corruption to offices of Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), Ghana Police, Economic, and Organized Crime Office-EOCO, Ghana Police Service, Special Prosecutor, BNI, Opinion leaders as well as the public complains department of the Krachi East Municipal Assembly.

Participants commended the NCCE for frequently sensitizing citizens on issues of national importance.
