NCCE TRAINS STAFF ON SOCIAL AUDITING ENGAGEMENT

Region on how to roll out the 2019 Social Auditing programme.

Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations, Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoh took staff through the social auditing concept. He explained that social auditing as a way of measuring, understanding, reporting and ultimately improving communities’ social and ethical performance. This, he said would help narrow gaps between vision/goal and reality, between efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr. Akuamoah elaborated steps staff must adopt during their Social Auditing engagements. The steps are:

  • Identify a community
  • Profile the community
  • Select the community
  • Select participants
  • Identify the primary needs of the communities
  • Clarify the purpose of the engagement to them
  • Identify the stakeholders (Assembly members, MCE, DCE, chiefs, etc.)
  • Draw an action plan
  • Assign responsibility
  • Organise regular meetings to review and discuss data/information on performance indicators
  • Follow-up of social audit meeting with the stakeholders and community members on future action as recommended by the stakeholders
  • Cross-section of the community participants

Mr. Akuamoah urged all staff of the Commission to be innovative in their public education techniques and emphasized that civic educators undertaking Social Auditing explain the purpose of the exercise to participants.

The Programmes Director of the NCCE, Mr Johnson Opoku said the engagement would enable community members to be involved in community decisions and participate in the decision-making process at the local level. He also admonished staff to sensitise and educate all citizens on the importance of social auditing.
