Today is International Day of the Girl-Child. The NCCE on this day joins the world to commemorate the occasion .This day is celebrated annually on 11th October to draw attention to the challenges facing female adolescents all over the world. The theme for this year’s celebration is “With Her: A Skilled Girl Force”. Inferring from this year’s theme, when you educate the girl-child she can be a force to reckon with.
The occasion is also a time to reflect on the various ways in which girls have been denied their rights, and to celebrate the fighters. The Day serves as an opportunity to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights.
The NCCE urges parents and guardians to pay key attention to girl-child education and fight all forms of abuse against the girl- child such as early/forced marriage, rape, defilement, child sexual abuse among others especially in the rural areas of Ghana.
The Commission over the years has undertaken several advocacy campaigns on girl-child education including research on child early/ forced marriage to curb this practice in Ghana. As a country, we must understand that the continued education of the girl-child can be a positive force for national development.
