NCCE MOURNS WITH GHANAIANS ON THE PASSING OF KOFI ANNAN

20th August, 2018

The National Commission for Civic Education, NCCE, has noted with sadness, the death of former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. The Commission extends its condolences to the wife, the family, Ghanaians and the United Nations where Mr. Annan served for decades with distinction.

The NCCE is aware that, until recently, Mr. Annan was the Chancellor of the University of Ghana and his wise counsel and leadership were brought to bear on the running of Ghana’s foremost university. The NCCE again remembers Kofi Annan as a champion of global peace, human rights and security as well as his conviction for democracy and anti-corruption. His loss is not a loss only for Ghana but the entire world.

His fight for peace and security around the world brought him to the notice of the Nobel Awards Committee who duly honoured him with a Nobel Peace Prize in 2001.

As a son of Ghana, he will be long remembered by all and especially making Ghana proud on the international scene.

Indeed, his compassion, conduct and calmness towards difficult issues far exceeded human comprehension. The world would miss such a great man, who was in fact, an epitome of human decency.

Damirefa Due! Rest in peace, pride of the Ghanaian citizenry.
